All our volunteer tutors are stellar in their own way, but Tanuja, well, her star shines especially brightly. We are proud to share the important work that she and her organization, Watch Over Me, are doing to actively combat homelessness.
Tanuja says,
"I started this organization after my volunteer work with low income kids and adults. Tutoring at Top Honors, I often had students coming from unstable homes, where parents were struggling to find work and create a better environment for their kids. Then working at The Beacon in Houston as a Case Manager and the Houston Food Bank as a social services outreach specialist for Food Stamps and Medicaid, I connected with folks facing unimaginable hardship. But they shared a common desire - to change their situation for the better. And change requires tools.

Watch Over Me provides these tools for change. The organization distributes wrist watches and journals to social service agencies for homeless clients enrolled in Case Management. Our mission is to ensure that anyone trying to exit or avoid homelessness never miss opportunities to do so because of lost time or information. Watches and journals help clients keep track of appointments, interviews, transportation schedules, medication regimens and much more."To Tanuja and the team at Watch Over Me: we applaud your hard work in the fight against homelessness.
